8 Crabs – Awesome Treats Delivered to Your Doorstep!

We love crabs and were elated when 8 Crabs approached us for a food review.

For a family consisting of three adults and 4 children, we ordered 6 dishes. Hubby, the self-proclaimed foodie, was satisfied with the excellent food quality.

Quality from 8 Crabs

8 Crabs serve Chili Crab, Black Pepper Crab and Salted Egg Crab. We ordered a Large Chili Crab and a Large Salted Egg Crab. Each weighed approximately 750 gram and cost $68. Large serving is the smallest serving size available. We had the option to choose Extra Large and Double Extra Large Sized Crabs, depending on availability at the point of ordering.

As a regular in seafood restaurants for dinners with overseas clients, Hubby commended on the crabs’ superb quality. They were comparable to the restaurant’s standards. The flesh from both dishes was succulent and shouted freshness. We didn’t find any crumbly nor watery flesh.

Wonder how 8 Crabs maintain its superior crab quality?

8 Crabs informed that they are the only company in Singapore using grade AAA premium Sri Lankan sourced wild crabs. The most experienced crab graders in the trade will carry out the grading.

Using wild crabs instead of farmed crabs makes a big difference in the crab quality.

According to 8 Crabs, crabs naturally travel about 500m every night and prefer to live alone. However, farmed crabs live in confined spaces most of the time. The tight living spaces cause these farmed crabs to stress up quickly in captivity, as many farms cannot replicate their natural habitat.

The stressed crabs produce ammonia, which is a sign of decomposition of seafood. Most restaurants purchase farmed crabs because they are cheaper. As a result, many chefs use highly fragrant gravies to cover up the ammonia smell.

8 Crabs purchase crabs that are caught, flown, prepared and delivered to customers within 12 hours. If you want to know more, check out this link for details on their process.

8 Crabs also dedicates one driver to an order across their 12 kitchens island-wide to uphold their promise of the One-Hour Crab Delivery.

Back to our 8 Crabs food review.

The gravies were lovely. They had the right thickness to pair with our favourite Fried Man Tou. We are such big fans of the Man Tou that we ordered 15!

Additionally, we were pleasantly surprised by how “unsalty” the Salted Crab gravy tasted. After knowing how 8 Crabs prioritises a reliable supply of fresh wild crab, I can understand why their award-winning chefs confidently concoct gravies that do not cover the natural sweetness of the crabs.

The chefs also carefully cracked each crab before delivery. We did not need to use any crab cracker at all.

Look at the thick gravy we picked up with the Fried Man Tou!

We ordered other side dishes such as prawn paste chicken, clay pot beancurd and salted fish fried rice.

The prawn paste chicken will taste really yummy if we can savour it immediately. The salted fish fried rice was surprisingly small portion though. We ordered a small portion to that was for 2 to 3 person, but it seemed like a portion for 1 to 2 person.
