LUMOS NANO Projector Review – Bringing The Cinema Home

We were thrilled when we received the LUMOS NANO Home Cinema Mini Portable Projector and could not wait to enjoy our first cinematic movie experience together.

I previously received a pair of LUMOS TEMPO earbuds and was highly pleased with their performance. Moreover, LUMOS, a homegrown brand, has received countless positive feedback from its satisfied customers. Hence, my expectation for the LUMOS NANO projector was relatively high.

Check out my opinions on the LUMOS TEMPO earbud here.

A Movie Projector Is Great For A Family With Multiple Young Children.

We hadn’t had a chance to enter the cinema with all four kids together. The youngest two are five years old, while the elder ones are entering their teenage years. With an age gap of 6 years, there aren’t many shows they can enjoy thoroughly together.

Yes, the youngest love the popular Marvel / Transformer / Jurassic Park type of movies too. However, confining themselves to the dark movie theatre with a high-quality and dramatic sound system is way too much for them to handle.

When we got to know that the LUMOS NANO allowed us to bring the cinema home, we knew our problem was solved! All six of us can finally snuggle together in bed to enjoy the movies, hide under the blankets or escape from the room when necessary!

Why I Love The Handy LUMOS NANO

Amazing Cinematic Experience

The picture quality thrown onto our plain light blue wall by LUMOS NANO was truly impressive. If I throw the image onto a plain white wall like a projector screen, the image quality will be even better.

LUMOS NANO is armed with premium DLP Tech with 1,500 lumens. DLP (digital light processing) is projectors’ most premium form of light display technology currently.

There are also LCD and LED projectors in the market. However, according to the Elite HTS website, although LCD projectors produce great quality images, it tends to be bulky and have a shorter lifespan. In contrast, LED projectors are less bright and pricier.

The light beamed from the LUMOS NANO DLP projection is exceptionally bright, so the colours thrown on the wall are more vivid in the darkness. We were thinking of something grainy and washed out, like those traditional ones we saw in our office meeting rooms. But no, not LUMOS NANO.

But do avoid looking directly at the lights beamed from LUMOS NANO. The brilliant bright light may harm your eyes. Hence, keep it out of reach from children because you know the curiosity in them may not always be a good thing.

I attempted projecting a movie clip on the ceiling too. It felt pretty awesome to be lying down on my bed while enjoying a show on a massive 100″ screen when full-blown. But it is not something I will do with the kids because habitually lying down to watch a movie is not healthy for the eyes.

I don’t have to worry about getting a projector stand too, as the projector comes along with a mini stand.

If I need to place the LUMOS NANO at an angle or even on the floor, the screen adjusts automatically with its keystone function.

Superb Audio Quality

If you didn’t notice earlier, scroll back to my first video again and be blown away by LUMO NANO’s powerful Dolby Audio speakers.

I prefer to place the projector in front of me to enjoy the full effects of the Dolby Audio speakers.

This Little One is Smart

The projector has equipped with Bluetooth, Wi-fi, Netflix and Youtube. It has its own inbuilt Android
9.0 operating system, meaning that I can turn it on like a smartphone, fiddle on the built-in touchpad on the projector, tap and play.

This little fella is so easy to use that I, a tech noob, and my 11-year-old can easily set up the projector on our own.

LUMOS NANO is Ultra Handy For Work and Travel

LUMOS NANO weighs less than 400g and is power-packed with superb audio and visual features.

With its Bluetooth and Wifi connectivity, we can bring it anywhere we want, especially for holidays and business travel.

The projector also comes with an HDMI port and a USB port. Connecting the projector to my notebook was straightforward enough, with a simple selection of the HDMI option on the home page. It was the first time I made a connection to the projector on my own. I thought it was a small achievement because I used to leave this so-call technical stuff to our IT colleagues in the office.

Lumos Nano

My hubby is a frequent traveller who often makes presentations in meetings. The portable LUMOS NANO with a minimum throw distance of 50 cm will undoubtedly serve him well in small meeting rooms where no projector is available.

Further, when fully charged, the projector can run on its own for 2 hours without any power adapter.

Running through the numbers in excel doesn’t seem to be any trouble, though reading fine prints in the dark tends to strain one’s eyes. So try not to present documents with lots of tiny words for an extended period if you bring out the LUMOS NANO for meetings.

Turn the scroll wheel at the side (see photo below) to adjust the lens focus.

Other Features

There are other functions which you may find helpful for your lifestyle too.

Wireless Mirror Casting

Some may like to mirror your smartphone screen onto the wall when playing games. It will be an entirely different experience playing with such a gigantic screen!

Bluetooth Connectivity To Speakers and As Speakers

According to LUMOS, with Bluetooth connectivity, the user can connect it to a more superior external speaker or soundbar if preferred. Unfortunately, I don’t have an external speaker to test this function at home.

Further, you can also opt to connect your smartphone to LUMOS NANOS and use it like a speaker. This is especially useful for smartphones with no Dolby features, such as Dolby Atmos.

Accessories

Check out all the accessories that come with the projector in the photo below. The remote control is a must-have when we search for a movie name on Youtube or Netflix.

LUMOS NANO – AWESOME FEATURES, AFFORDABLE PRICE TAG

Remember LUMOS NANO supports a high resolution of 1080p (Native 480p) for a projection screen size of up to 100″. And yet it is amazingly priced at only S$599 currently with a 1-year local warranty.

A quick comparison on Amazon shows that other smart projectors come which higher resolution and brightness. But these products come with a significantly higher price tag, as much as double.

One may consider getting hold of these super high-end ones for their gigantic home theatre.

But for most of us living in tiny apartments, do we need a top-tier projector to flash a movie in our small rooms? The answer is no.

If you are considering getting a projector for your home use, consider the LUMOS NANO too. It is available directly from LUMOS Projector via their website.

Shipping is available to Singapore and Malaysia.

Disclosure: I received a set of the LUMOS NANO projector for this review. Opinions are entirely mine, nonetheless.
