SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World – it’s worth the trip

Going to Bangkok with 4 kids means we have to find kid-friendly itineraries. Since my children love visiting the zoo and bird park, visiting the aquarium should be a hit for them too. So yes, I got it right. They had a blast in the SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World.

We visited Singapore’s Resorts World S.E.A Aquarium last June, and SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium many years ago. We have long forgotten the sea animals we saw in Sydney other than the Dugongs and the sharks, our recollections of the Resorts World S.E.A Aquarium still lingers.

So before I continue with the photos, I would like to mention that Bangkok’s Ocean World is more kid-friendly, interactive and has many installations for kids’ photo shoots. It also has a wider range of sea animals and amphibians to impress visitors.

The Shark Encounter

We spent the longest time in the Shark Tunnel and the Shark Shipwreck where the kids went about to spot the sand tiger sharks, the tawny nurse sharks, the eagle rays and many other sea creatures. These creatures are indeed mesmerising and we could not take our eyes off them.

The Thai statute featured inside the shark tank gives the aquarium an enchanting and unique feel.

We could have taken the glass bottom boat to have enjoyed a closer encounter with the sharks and rays. This activity charges a separate THB350 per person.

Rocky Shore

I am very impressed by how SEA LIFE manages to upkeep this gentoo penguin colony. These gentoo penguins are found in islands above Antarctica which can be as cold as -20C!

The entire tank is clean and free from algae, unlike the ones I have seen elsewhere. There is even a separate room that allows the penguins to nest.

Before the end of the journey, there were also 2 stations of penguin-themed computer games. Our kids had many rounds of “swimming” competitions and they would have taken longer if not for the queue behind them.

Located beside the penguin colony were 2 sea turtles swimming in another tank.

Another feature in SEA Life Bangkok which impressed me a lot was this 3D image of the polar bears in the Arctic with the kiddos’ reflections imposed on it.

Seahorse Kingdom and Coral Reefs

This section was where we saw endless tanks of seahorses and cute little clownfishes. My toddlers remember these little creatures till today. It was indeed an educational trip for them.

And there was a little tunnel which could accommodate only the little ones. Our little lads occupied the tunnel for so long that a queue was formed outside by the other children waiting for their turn. That was how much they liked the coral reef tunnel.

Rock Pool

Every aquarium has to have a rock pool. Not sure where my girl gets her guts from. She always joins the queue at the rock pool for a round of sensory experience.

Tropical Rain Forest

SEA LIFE Bangkok not only showcases sea animals but amphibians living in the tropical rain forest.

Below is an African bullfrog. It is the largest amphibian found in southern Africa and they feed on nearly any animal species they can fit into their huge mouths.

Rocky Hideout

This is one section which I missed a clear shot and I regretted. An octopus. Not sure about you, but I was my first time facing a huge and creepy octopus.

Our entire visit took us nearly 3 hours without the boat ride. The aquarium was crowded and we had to wait a minute or so to get a good view of certain marine lives. And if we had taken the boat, we might have taken perhaps 4 hours coz there is a queue for the ride too.
