Discovering Playground: Pasir Ris Swimming Pool

Since our four children enjoyed themselves immensely in Splash @ Kidz Amaze, we decided to venture into more water playgrounds. We tried a public swimming pool last month but the facility, although new, is not exciting enough to share.

Today we went to the Pasir Ris Swimming Pool and the kids had a blast there.

Pasir Ris Swimming Pool

Pasir Ris Swimming Pool is a public swimming pool located in Pasir Ris Sports Centre. Other than a standard size competition pool, a learning pool and a fully shaded jacuzzi, there is also a water playground and 2 mega slides that stand right in the middle of the entire swimming pool.

Water Playground

There are 2 open slides and 1 tunnel slide in the water playground. These slides are gently sloped, very much suited for younger children around the age of 2 to 3. My 21-month-old twin toddlers got a kick out of sliding down the yellow open slides into the 0.3m pool. The water-loving twin tried out the tunnel slide with my helper too.

Unfortunately for us, the lifeguard on duty was rule-bidding. No adult is allowed on the children’s slides. Thus my little girl could only try the tunnel slide once. I have no guts to let her go down the tunnel by herself.

Unlike the water buckets in many other swimming pools, this one here is forgiving. With a panel installed below the bucket, the bulk of the spill went straight into the pool, rather than onto any little ones standing below

After a while, the kids got bored of the slides and began exploring the rest of the swimming pool. The twins were amused by the soothing water fountain in the shelter and spent some time playing there. Somehow, I forgot to log down their happy faces.

Slides for Big Kids

My 7-year-old daughter attempted the big orange slide. Another conscientious lifeguard on duty disallowed me from getting onto the slide because my swimsuit has some dangling metal ornaments. The lady explained that metal objects on the swimsuit may scratch the slide, which in turn is a danger to other users on the slide. Her explanation made a lot of sense. Despite my disappointment, I did not feel so upset missing out.

The slide leads to a 1.05m deep pool. Another safety regulation which the lifeguard observed was to ensure that my daughter went down the slide by herself. Unlike Splash @ Kids Amaze, we are not allowed to accompany our kids down the slide.

What I like about Pasir Ris Swimming Pool

With fastidious lifeguards taking good care of the premise, the 7-year-old facility is well maintained. Most of the pools, including the competition pool, are all partially shaded. Even though we were there in the late morning, we didn’t get too much of the sun.

The toilets are clean, and there is an open children toilet conveniently located in front of the kids’ pool. For a mother of four kids aged 8 and below, this toilet is a huge convenience to me.

It is affordable! Because we went on a weekday, it only cost us $1.50 per adult and $0.80 per child.

Burger King is located right beside the pool. And since there is a serving window from BK, swimmers do not need to leave the pool premise to grab a bite.

Further Improvement Required

My only complaint is the pool’s salty water. It tasted a lot saltier than other public swimming pool, and I suspect it is partially due to its vicinity to the Pasir Ris beach.
