A day tour with Northern Soul Adventures in Tromso

For anyone who wants to catch the Northern Light in the Arctic area, Tromso is an essential stopover.

Tromso is situated in the northern areas of Norway. Most people who visit here will carry out some winter activities such as dog sledging, reindeer feeding or northern light catching.

A day tour with Northern Soul Adventures

We decided to join an Arctic day tour with Northen Soul Adventures* to the nearby island, Kvaløya so as to maximise our stay in Tromso. Some might think the itinerary would be the same as our day tour in Lofoten Islands. However, we decided to go ahead since no two mountains and scenery are the same!

The roadtrip consists of endless mountains, fjords, and even small portion of sandy beach.

The meetup point for the tour was easily recognisable, right outside a white tourist shop building right in the city. We were very excited to join the tour even before we reached Tromso because we had read many positive reviews from TripAdvisor*.

Upon reaching, a young bubbly lady, Hannah came out from the van and there, she was our guide! Anyway, our tour group consisted of us, a pair of cute German couple and a pair of French ladies. The minimum participant is 3 and the maximum is 7, which in my opinion is just nice and cosy.

Hannah started by introducing Tromso and drove us around Kvaløya. I could sense her passion right from the start and it turned out to be one of our highlights of Tromso!

Hannah set up Northern Soul Adventures together with her husband, Jeff. She was full of energy, all wide and smiley, and exuded positivity throughout the entire trip. I could feel her love for nature as she brought us to explore every corner of the Arctic. No wonder it’s called Northern Soul Adventures. We jokingly said it should be northern snow adventures instead since there is snow everywhere.

Vast Wilderness Covered in Snow

As we drove along, we saw some wild reindeers! We quietly observed them from a distance to respect their natural habitat and their privacy as well.

Apparently, female reindeers shed their antlers during the summer. The antlers will grow back during winter so that they can hunt food for their young.

On the other hand, male reindeers grow their antlers the other way round. These reindeers are very calm animals and will not attack you so long as you do not cross their boundaries.

It’s a pity that we didn’t get to sight any moose along the way, which would otherwise make it the perfect wildlife experience for us.

Lunch was vegan and prepared by Hannah. There’s a small little set up behind her van, with chairs for sitting at the beach if the weather was good. Along the way, Hannah took lots of pictures which were shared with us at the end of the tour.

The tour with Northern Soul Adventures ended with a picture-perfect scenic place. This is where most northern light chasers will come to at night because the northern light will rise from the horizon in between the fjords and all the way till up above the sky.

Rating of the tour: Thumbs up, highly recommended if you are up for some adventure!
