Make Your Own Yummy Rice Burger with Premium Beef Patties

With the right ingredients used, home-cooked food is always healthier and cheaper.

My elder kids love burgers, but I have yet to find any gluten-free burgers that are affordable and yummy, so I was inspired by MOS Burger to make our own rice burgers.

All we need are some juicy meat patties, cheese and tomatoes for extra flavours and rice burgers that hold together.

Sharing our Rice Burger recipe here.

Making the Rice Burgers

We use brown rice that scores a lower glycaemic index (GI) as compared to white rice. Food with lower GI is slower in raising blood sugar as compared to food with a higher GI.

Ingredients:

(for six-person)

3 cups of Brown Rice

5 Eggs ,using only the egg whites.

Method:

Cook rice as usual.

Allow the cooked rice to cool before mixing in the egg whites. We use only the egg whites so that the rice burgers will remain white. You can choose to use the entire eggs if you like, but reduce the number of eggs to three.

Heat pan.

To create a perfectly shaped rice burger, use an egg mold ring. Place the ring on the pan and fill it up with the egg-rice mixture. Press down and remove the mold once the rice burger is shaped to your satisfaction. The top and bottom pieces of the rice burger should be two-third of a Chinese bowl.

We use medium heat to gently cook the rice burger until the underside is a little charred. Flip over and allow the other side to toast.

If you prefer a softer bun texture, you can consider using white rice or even sticky glutinous rice. You can even skip the eggs and simple mold the rice into buns. As we favour healthier ingredients over taste and texture, we will keep to brown rice with eggs

Remove and set aside for later use.

Rice Burger Fillings

It is really up to your individual preferences. We like to indulge in good food over the weekend. Since dining at home saves us a lot of money, we can afford to select better ingredients.

Hence, we often source our meat and seafood from Come M.Eat & Sea, a local business that provides affordable premium food.

Ingredients for the Fillings

Wagyu Beef Patties ( x 1 patty per pax)

Cheddar Cheese / Gouda Cheese Slice

Egg Yoke Omelette (optional)

Method

Prepare the egg yolk omelette first. Add 2 tablespoons of low-salt soya sauce and 2 tablespoons of mirin into the egg yolks. Beat well.

Pour the eggs into the pan to thinly cover the pan base. This works better on a flat pan rather than a traditional Chinese wok. Reserve the remaining eggs for the second batch of cooking if your pan is small.

Allow the egg to cook fully. Remove from pan and cut the omelette into thin strips or small pieces.

We only season the thawed patties with a few pinch of salt, and more generously with black pepper as the cheese slices that we are going to add later is going to give the beef an extra savoury taste.

Pan-fry the patties to your preferred doneness. Flip over to ensure that the patties are evenly cooked.

Add the cheese slices onto the hot patties to allow the cheese to melt.

Remove the patties from the pan and arrange all the ingredients on the rice burger.

Serve immediately.

For a balanced diet, serve some salad on the side.

Need some ideas on super easy salad sauce too?

We go Japanese – our sauce consists of low-salt soya sauce, sushi vinegar and a few drops of sesame oil. Mix well and that’s it!

A Tip For Those With Young Kids

Honestly, the younger ones can’t handle the rice burger on their own without smearing the floor with crumbles of rice and fillings. We wrap the rice burger with baking paper to secure the fillings so that our preschoolers can still enjoy their meal independently.

Enjoy!
