What To Play in the Free Forest Ramble Playground in Jurong Lake Garden.

Have you been to the Jurong Lake Garden already? We finally got our chance and marched our way straight into the Forest Ramble Playground.

The Jurong Lake Garden is notably one of the most beautifully landscaped gardens in Singapore. It has been recently featured in Cube Magazine too.

The 90-hectare national garden is so vast. It currently comprises only the Lakeside Garden which is already challenging for my family to cover in a day.

The remaining 3 sections, the Chinese and Japanese Gardens and Garden Promenade are scheduled for completion in 2021.

With 2 three-year-old tagging along, we decided to play conservative and go right into our priority, that is, the Forest Ramble Playground!

There are 13 different sections in Jurong Lake Garden playground, each with its distinct features. Unfortunately, there were a number of sections that were on maintenance on the day we went (December 2020), such as the Heron Play, many of the swings, and the enabling merry-go-round.

Flying Fox and Heron Play in the Jurong Lake Garden Playground

We started off from the Flying Fox as it was the first adventure point we could access from the entrance into the playground. As a result of Covid-19, most entrances are temporarily cordoned off, and leaving only one for safe entry scanning and headcount tabulation.

Heron Play was under maintenance on the day of our visit.

There are a variety of swings located right beside the Flying Fox, ever-popular amongst kids. Since most occupied, hence I didn’t want to take any photos of other kids playing on the swings.

Hammocks

The perfect corner for a moment to rest the tired bodies after rounds and rounds of play. I love the view behind the hammock, overlooking the iconic Chinese Garden Gate.

Crab Play

My kids didn’t bother trying Crab Play at all, probably because they are too tall for the structure. But little ones will certainly love to play hide-and-seek here!

Snake Play

One of the most photographed playground features in the Forest Ramble in the Jurong Lake Garden.

There are 2 ways to climb up the tower. Either via the rope ladder and subsequently the log steps, or via the upward slide with rock boulders installed. I tried climbing up the slide myself and was a little panting by the time I reached the top.

I think my kids spent about 20 minutes here and got themselves all perspiring by the end of their mini session.

Squirrel Play

Squirrel Play is located right beside the Snake Play. Lots of balancing opportunities for the kids and big kids like me.

A heavy-duty wooden see-saw is located right beside the ropes. Just be careful of the red ants there. We sat on a bench nearby and found an army there.

Guess what I sighted near this bird nest? A tiny yellow kingfisher! And its wings are certainly faster than my hands, no chance for any photoshoot!

Monkey Play in Forest Ramble Playground

Next to Squirrel Play is the Monkey Play, one of the more challenging sections in the Jurong Lake Garden playground. Lots of rope work, perfect for honing the kids’ balancing skill, upper body and core strength.

My little ones couldn’t enjoy this section independently as some of the ropes are too high for them.

Otter Play

Next stop is Otter Play, parked right beside the washroom facility.

Walking on top of the logs are challenging, especially after a series of play. But it is indeed a wonderful section that is worth spending time on. If we come to visit again, I will probably start off in the opposite direction to give the kids more opportunities to try out different segments.

The Bridge

Haiz, another section that was off-limits that day. I would love to walk across the bridge too.

There is a little stream just after the bridge, and huge boulders are strategically placed there for visitors to venture across. My girls take pleasure in bashing through tall grasses these days, so these rocks were perfect for them.

Trampolines

We were pleasantly surprised by the trampolines installed on top of the slope. This finale expended the kids’ remaining energy and we had to drag them back to the North Carpark.

Going to Jurong Lake Garden Forest Ramble Playground? The Practicalities

If you drive, the North Carpark is the nearest to the Forest Ramble Playground.

The washroom is located between the Otter Play and Monkey Play. There are also vending machines and water coolers outside the toilet.

We took 90 minutes to complete the playground, though we missed a couple of sections due to maintenance. Moreover, our twins are only turning four in a few months’ time.

If you have bigger kids with you, you probably need to schedule in a 2-hour block for a session of satisfying play.
